Spontaneous trips are for keeps, Marlon and his ex-officemates decided to have a weekend trip to Prince Edward County to visit the deservedly popular Sandbanks for a day of bbq, beer, and sunbathing.
We left Toronto early Saturday morning for a 2-hour drive to PEC. The road to PEC is not as scenic as I imagined it to be but there is something about a long drive that makes a holiday special on its own. We were headed straight to Sandbanks as one of Marlon's colleagues went early to find a table and a place for us to grill and chill.
We were able to find the beach in no time, with all the bbq marinate, equipment, and accessories unloaded in the car, we walked up and down the dunes of warm sand. The place is not called Sandbanks for no reason, wherever you look at the mouth of the bay area is an all-mountain of sand all throughout.
The weather was nice, the lake was inviting, and the sand on our feet is warm but the incessant blow of strong wind makes it cold to have a dip and enjoy the warm grilled food. We did not let the howling wind dampen our day in the sun though, we are wise enough to do that. We enjoyed grilling, drinking, and chatting. Gabby had her own little world gliding and rolling on the dunes.
We left the beach just before the sunset to make our way to our hotel which is a 30-min drive from Sandbanks. We stayed at Travelodge in Trenton. The hotel is not as exceptional as our usual accommodation standard but the scenery where the property sits is breathtaking.
We had an early morning start the following day for picture-taking shenanigans at the lakefront.
Our stay at PEC proves that an overnight trip is not enough. There were many more places to explore in the beautiful county. I am itching to be back next summer, and this time, we'll get our adventure shoes on and ready!
