Up close with the Locals! (Gabby's Birthday Week HK-Macau 12/03-08/16)

Our second day in Hong Kong was our busiest! We have been to 4 different attractions. It was planned that later on that night we will be going to their famous Night Market to grab some street delicacies and bargain shopping. Unfortunately, we had gone back on our way to the hotel a little too late and our Litol Biw was already sleeping in papa's arms. We decided to just hit the sheets, after all, we've been to wonderful places already.

The title "Up close with the Locals" aim to share with you how our visit to Lantau Island in Hong Kong enable us to see a part of the locals day to day lives. We have been partially imparted with knowledge from Lantau's most observed religion to basic livelihood, their traditions, beliefs, and delicacies.

Fun ride in the sky!

Tai-O Fishing Village

Scenic stilt houses built over the waterway was what Tai-O Village was all about. Onboard a smooth sailing outrigger, we have come to see a bit of the fisherman's livelihood. The tour was not only about the view, we indulged ourselves with the Village delicacies from dried squid to grilled cheesy lobsters!

Our pretty Gabby

And of course handsome papa

Who says no to yummy barbeque!

Lobsters grilled to perfection with cheese on top!

Worth every penny spent! From the smell of the sea to lively fishermen, goodies, and souvenirs aplenty! Tai-O Village for the win!

A panoramic view around Ngong Ping. The buildings to the right offer tea (authentic Chinese) for refreshments. They also conduct teachings on how to accurately prepare a good tea.

PoLin Monastery

PoLin Monastery was located hidden behind lush mountains. It is called as the Buddhist World in the South. The monastery is home to many devout monks and shows the great manifestation of Buddhism. No available pictures of the colorful interior due to strict observance of the place of sacredness.

The Buddhist Monastery founded in 1906. If only those details could tell what beautiful history this monastery was built upon!

Around the Monastery, with a cow too, as almost everybody's favorite selfie buddy. The walkway to the monastery was guarded with the 12 heavenly generals (12 zodiac representations).

Tian Tan Buddha

The bronze statue of Buddha represents the harmonious relationship between man and nature. It is a major center of Buddhism in Hong Kong.

The Great White Gate, we were told that upon entering the other side of the gate, one must leave all attachments to earthly desires (Nirvana), as beyond the other side was a life of heavenly bliss.

The Big Buddha from afar! We haven't climbed the stairs to the Buddha so we contented to look at him in appreciation from afar.

Another day for the family has ended wonderfully in Hong Kong! It was a great chance to have visited major Buddhist sanctuary. A chance to get to know the locals as well as their common livelihoods such as fishing and the chance to experience the fun high up in the sky with Hong Kong's Cable gondola!
