Crossing through the Maritimes: Nova Scotia to PEI

The Marcoses 2024 Provinces Series - The Maritimes (July 13-24)

This short is one for the road! Our crossing from Dartmouth to PEI marked the conclusion of our time in Nova Scotia and the start of the second leg of our tour through the Maritimes. Leaving Nova Scotia to Prince Edward Island is a bittersweet journey. We came to love NS for her coastal charms but we knew that PEI is yet to bedazzle us.

Day 6: Mini Walking Tour in Lunenburg

Eager for more Maritime adventures, we bid farewell to Nova Scotia, but not before making a few stops at places we were determined to fit into our itinerary. Kickstarting day 6/12 of our Maritime expedition` is a farewell mini-walking tour in Lunenburg. Much of our time there was spent exploring the sea, but the town itself is worth a visit, offering a beauty that rivals even the allure of the ocean. We visited a few places of history, getting up close with the colorful row of houses, visiting dainty shops, and hoarding for souvenirs. We have learned stories of the town's glorious past.

The mini-walking tour is our final appreciation of Old Town Lunenburg, a place worthy of its prestige as a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. We are beyond thankful for the opportunity to experience one of the jewels of the Atlantic.

Dartmouth to PEI

We are saying goodbye to Lunenburg and going to Dartmouth to grab a quick lunch and some shopping before finally crossing to PEI. Dartmouth is home to a multitude of outlet-priced goods. It is a good opportunity to refresh our wardrobe without breaking the bank. The clothing we purchased here also serves as a collection of souvenir pieces, each one bringing back memories of the places we’ve visited whenever worn. We also enjoyed authentic Japanese food for lunch.

With full bellies and satisfied with our purchases, we set off to Prince Edward Island. The driving distance from Dartmouth, NS to PEI takes approximately 3.5 hours. While the hours on the road don't promise breathtaking scenery, the reward for visual satisfaction comes late close to PEI. It was a long highway before us, flanked by a wide stretch of uninhabited land, vast potato fields, and occasional glimpses of the water. We arrived very late and headed straight to our hotel. The following day is a tale of another adventure, realizing childhood dreams and unofficially declaring PEI the heart of the Maritime. We fell in love, ocean-deep. More to that on the next pages.
