Malacca and the sensual art of history (09/11-13/15) A UNESCO World Heritage Site

A tale of two and a half gypsies who traveled back to the past borrowing the present time.

Midnight on the road to Malacca on board a not so posh (luxury) coach but nonetheless comfortable with its cushioned and reclining seat, footrest and neck pillows with a carpeted floor to boot. It was an enjoyable 4-hour ride from Bugis Station to Melaka City Centre which is a walking distance to major hotels (fare is at sgd 30-40 per pax). http://www.busonlineticket.com/

That being said, as we had alighted from the coach we just had to take a few steps to our lavish and elegant accommodation which is conveniently at the center to some of Melaka’s historical landmarks, The Hatten Hotel. http://www.hattenhotel.com/

Retracing the steps back to history:
The pink Church: Splendid in beauty, rich in history; Christ Church.

The Anglican Church dated back to 18th century had me drooling for years. I have seen numerous selfies and social media uptakes of the beautiful church and here, my turn finally came to brag the day I visited the oldest functioning Protestant Church in Malaysia!

The Church held but too many links with history. From artifacts of tombstones and memorial plaques, the church’s bell (dated back to 1698) and the altar Bible.

How’d we get there from Hatten Hotel? Well, no less than fancy with a trishaw! Just after the traffic light across the hotel, the eccentric tricycle lined up at our service! Designed with Disney princesses, superheroes, flowers and too many and all too nice to pick just one! Could have suggested to Marlon we’d get each of us a trishaw but Gabby, with all her might chose and had us all rode the Elsa-decorated!

With loud music and “kuya” paddled-up racing against the wind, we just used trishaw in every place we had visited in Malacca. It was cheap, fast, pretty and fun!

The Church at St. Paul’s hill: Dedicated to Our Lady of Grace, St. Paul’s Church

A time travel experience brought by the Church’s interior. In association with St Francis Xavier, my patron saint, it was said that St. Francis used the Church as his base for his missionary journeys to Japan and China. St. Francis body was temporarily buried at the Church before it was shipped to Goa.

Around the area:

 Heritage museum

around warrior monument, I was the victor, rewarded with a kiss :)

A showcase of the city's history: Malacca Sultan Istana

The museum is a reconstruction of the palace of the Malacca Sultanate. The place taught us the beautiful history and culture of Malacca in a form of artful perception.

Malacca and so much more: Melaka River Cruise

Cruise the Straits of Malacca on small boats that transported us to the historic edifice, mangroves, and villages. Seeing Malacca in almost its entirety in a fun-filled 45-minute boat ride with fellow tourists!

River cruising was the last leg of our Malacca adventure, headed then to Jonker Street for goodies, delicacies and a mouthful of the city’s cuisine. We love the lobster in a hot sauce! Yumminess!

Short time, good time, got us all good Malacca! Dreaming away to be once again in this beautiful and historical city!
