Historic Elora - MBG Campground Entry

2023 MBG Places Ontario Series - Elora Gorge Conservation Area - Jul 15-16, 2023

Summer 2023. MBG fulfilling our extensive list of summer entries. This time, we are headed to Elora Gorge Conservation Area. Elora is a quaint little community in Wellington County, 2 hrs drive from Toronto. Elora is not only historic but scenic, straight out of a postcard. It is a place of dainty charms, romantic road trips, and all those kinds of cheesy summer fling. Head on out just a little further in the downtown core, and that Little Mermaid Emporium across the street cemented those kinds of vibe!

Make no mistake, Elora is not only famous for her small country charms, Elora is also a haven for those brave at heart. The adventurous souls who challenge the call of the wild! Elora is home to a raging stream of water in between scenic gorge. There you can mark your bravery by tubing the raging water, you will get smashed to boulders while the water will rock you hard. If you like hanging it all out and leaving your fate to the cradles of the wind and a tiny little rope, a zipline in between those gorges is also an option. We never tried any of these, we just came to chill and grill.

Day 1.

Afternoon to dark and we had that little time to set up our tents and canopy. Camping is not for us, we just had to ride the bandwagons of every Canadian's epitome of summertime. Yet again, camping is not for us! Somehow, we managed to erect 2 lovely homes for the night. Our new all-weather tent that would be put to the test that night and our sturdy mesh canopy to keep mosquitos away.

My ultimate aesthetic of outdoor cooking is on display, these were not fully used until the morning. This is all that I cared for really, pictures, and then that's it.

This is what Marlon cared for also, a grill, beer, and pork belly.

This is what Gabby cared for too, a comfy and warm shelter, a good wifi connection, fully charged gadgets, pillows, and blankets. Who needs outdoor, when the internet is life?

We had a lovely dinner with a night lamp after the setup and stress out. Bonfire is a must too that even Gabby came out and joined in.

Day 2.

It rained that night and our all-weather tent and canopy withstood it. The next morning was non the better. Sporadic rain here and there, which makes exploring the conservation area hard. We decided to head on downtown for sights and see. We first had our breakfast.

The township.

Just a little over 20 mins, we were already in the township of Elora. It is as they say online, scenic and historic. The proof is the old buildings littered about, proud in beauty and history. We also passed by the famed Elora Mill. Access to the Mill is prohibited unless you are a paying guest. Yes, the Mill was repurposed as a travel guest house with an expansive price tag to boot.

The Conservation Area.

The rain finally decided to stop in the afternoon. We head back to the conservation area to explore around. First, we made our way back to our camp to grill and rest a little while.

We were supposed to stay for 2 nights in the campground, but again, camping is not for us so after lunch, we decided to pack up and tidy up and left Mazy at the front guest parking so we can explore the area on foot before we leave back to Toronto.

We headed first to the gorge, we saw some adventurous folks trying out the zipline. We were a little in the mood too and tried descending the river bank. It was steep stairs and an equally strenuous climb back up but totally worth it.

Due to the weather, tubing in the gorge was not permitted, we, however, went and saw how brutal that activity could have been. The gorge was unforgiving, but for the adventure seeker, that would reward them immensely.

Elora conservation area and the township is a summer-worthy trip. I would say I would love to go back again someday but not for that nature-ly stuff. I am all in it for the dainty, pretty, and mermaid color dreams.
