A Weekend in Batam

September 28-30 2018

What good way to end a busy week by having a short weekend trip to a place where fun meets the sun. With just a short ferry ride from Singapore, we're all smiles and headed our way to Batam, a small island in Indonesia.

Batam is a shopping haven, from clothes, toys, groceries and a lot of cheap finds! It is visit-worthy for budget travelers and a great escape from the hustle bustle in Singapore.

We stayed at Harris Hotel, at the waterfront for a visual therapy. A relaxing view of the wide stretch of blue waters, so much different from the towering cage of bricks and blocks in Singapore.

The hotel is nice and kid friendly, Gabby loves it so much. She had fun and she was having an all-new experience she can't stop talking about!

The Kid's pool is nothing short of amazing. The staff and attendant made sure while it is fun for the kids, it is safe too!  Water is kept warm, the water slide is supervised, there are huge bubble roll, cushion floaty and loose colorful balls and toys swarming in the kid's pool.

Harris hotel has their own mascot too! A friendly alligator whose job is to surprise guests with his dance moves. The staff even danced with him. He ends his presentation by giving out hugs and high five's to the kids and the kids at heart.

I and Marlon had our own sweet time as well. Shopping and food hunting! We went to Nagoya Shopping mall and I was but surprised sa kabarato sa baligya! Wala nka ready ako beauty oi, hibaw.an gadala ko ug dako nga shopping bag! Naloka ko slight! I noticed some of the shoppers were from Singapore too. They have this huge shopping bag that they filled with clothes, accessories and even groceries!

While the shopping is worth visiting again many times over, the food did disappoint a little bit. Albeit cheap and tasty but not something you'll brag about to have satiated your palate. Of course, I had a bottle of Indonesia's local beer to wrap up our food adventure!

The family had a blast on our weekend getaway to Batam. Will surely visit some time again! Cheers!
