Siopao

Steamed buns with pork filling will remind you of an afternoon siesta at home with the family. Best paired with coke.


Ingredients

Yummy porky pao

You will need:

For Filling:

  • 1/2 kg ground pork
  • 3 tbsp onion
  • 2 tbsp garlic
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp shortening or lard
  • 4 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp anis
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch deluted with 1/2 cup water

For Dough:

  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 cups warm milk
  • 1 1/2 tbsp yeast
  • 1 tbsp baking powder 
  • 4 tbsp white sugar 
  • 4 tbsp lard or shortening
  • 1 tbsp vinegar

Instructions

  • Combine the dough ingredients and knead, once roughly mix add vinegar
  • Rise for 1 hr, after 1 hr, deflate and rise again for another hour
  • Form into a log and divide into pieces
  • Flatten and put the filling
  • Steam for 15 mins in med heat, add 2 tbsp vinegar into the water
